Numbers and Performance of Regional SMEs
The analysis of data on the resilience of the economic fabric of Lombardy

Alessandro Fischetti, Leanus Administrator, was a guest at Motor Italy – Lombardy to discuss the regional business system and to present research and analysis of data from the Milano Finanza rankings.

These are the results of the analysis:
Italy shows a slight decline in revenues, but overall it maintains a structural balance. In this scenario, Lombardy confirms its leadership, generating 32,5% alone of national turnover. Financial indicators also remain solid, with declining bank debt and continued significant investments.

Lombardy's role becomes even more evident when compared with other regions: the revenue volume is almost double that of Lazio and twenty times higher than that of Sicily. This result is supported by a much higher number of active companies and an extremely dynamic production network.

As the country slows down, Lombardy is growing in a buck-the-trend. Revenues are increasing and margins are higher than the national average. We are seeing a reduction in bank debt, an increase in liquidity, and significant net investments: signs that confirm the attractiveness of the area for investors.

In Lombardy, a significant part of the economy it is concentrated in 2.772 medium and large companies. Although it represents only 5,2% of the total, They are responsible for 70% of the regional turnover. This shows how the economic heart of the area is driven by structured and high-performing companies.

Medium and large companies are also those growing the fastest: +2,28% revenues in the face of a weaker national context. They improve margins, reduce debt, and further strengthen liquidity. This is a segment that is demonstrating great resilience and investment capacity.

A very interesting fact concerns approximately 1.449 businesses are growing and generating profits without resorting to bank loans. This is the 3% of the Lombardy system and they represent extraordinary potential, with over €15 billion in new loans available. Only a small portion are experiencing financial difficulties.

Lombardy's top SMEs show extremely solid growth: +96% over the last five years. Not only has turnover grown, but so has added value, contribution margin, and EBITDA. A path of constant development that strengthens the competitiveness of the entire region.

From the synthesis of the parameters we observe a balanced and rapidly improving system. Revenues increased by 24%, Profitability is growing, and cash generation remains strong. Invested capital and ROE also confirm a very solid picture.

In 2024, TOP SMEs record a 24% revenue growth and an EBITDA of 15,3%, These figures are very high compared to the reference average. Bank debt has decreased significantly: twelve companies operate without any exposure to credit institutions. A clear sign of management efficiency and financial autonomy.
