Sustainability dialogues between banks and businesses", drawn up by the Ministry of Economy and Finance together with the associations of banks and entrepreneurs

Objectives of the Document

The Roundtable is, among other things, committed to fostering dialogue between SMEs and banks by defining an information exchange model that takes into account the needs of all stakeholders. The Document, developed by the Roundtable in collaboration with various stakeholders, aims to: i) facilitate the exchange of information between SMEs and banks, taking into account criteria of standardization, proportionality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, enhancing the specific information needs arising from sustainable finance regulations applicable to banks; ii) increase SMEs' awareness of the importance of sustainability information, also with a view to gradually moving toward adopting the VSME standard developed by EFRAG (see below); and iv) lay the foundations for training initiatives and pilot projects aimed at enhancing SMEs' sustainability skills. These initiatives will follow the publication of the Document, also leveraging discussions with relevant trade associations and the support of the European Commission's Technical Support Instrument program "Improving ESG data availability and sustainability corporate reporting in Italy" and the Ministry of the Economy and Finance's EduFin Committee. The Document consists of "Sustainability Information from SMEs to Banks" and the "Methodological Guide" with related annexes. The Document has been revised in light of the comments that emerged from the public consultation that ended on August 2, 2024.
